Turner Named #1 Top Contractor
Building Design and Construction

Building Design and Construction (BD+C) named Turner Construction Company as the top contractor of the year with $9.4 billion in construction put in place during 2007. Turner has ranked #1 in the BDC Annual Giants Survey for more than 20 years.

BD+C's annual Giants 300 rankings includes U.S. firms that designed or constructed the largest volume of commercial, institutional, industrial, and multifamily residential buildings in 2007. Each year, the magazine surveys the country's largest firms, ranking the top 300 across six categories: architects, architect/engineers, engineers, engineer/architects, contractors, and construction managers. Contractors and construction managers are ranked on the value of construction put in place. For multi-year projects, only work from the survey year applies.

Particularly strong markets during 2007 included the commercial, healthcare and education sectors with a significant amount of Turner’s work seeking LEED Certification from the United States Green Building Council. Among the 1,700 projects Turner worked on during 2007 were:


• UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif., a 1 million sq. ft., 520-room replacement hospital built in accordance with the California seismic safety requirements


• Yale-New Haven Hospital Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven, Conn., the 14-story, 511,000 sq .ft. cancer hospital will be the most comprehensive cancer care facility between Boston and New York City


• Northwestern University Richard and Barbara Silverman Hall for Molecular Therapeutics and Diagnostics in Evanston, Ill., a 147,000 sq. ft. biological imaging center


• Citigroup Court Square Two in Long Island City, N.Y., a 15-story, 490,000 sq. ft. office tower registered to receive a LEED Silver certification


• Los Angeles Unified School District, multiple K-12 projects, as part of $230 million in contracts three major new school construction projects
